Says Bittner, “Everyone (at RSA) claims to have new and exciting things. For me, it’s about finding the smaller booths tucked back in the corners where somebody’s come up with something that everybody hasn’t discovered yet – some cool product, or some new idea.”

The Future of AI and ML

One specialized area that The CyberWire is focusing on investigating is artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The company thinks that AI is going to be even bigger this year, and is digging in deep to find out what we can all expect to see from these technologies in the coming twelve months.

“I heard an interview last week with famed chess player Garry Kasparov (who many consider to be the greatest chess player of all time),” says Bittner. “He said, ‘We are at the point where any chess-playing computer can beat any human.’ However, if Garry teams up with a chess-playing computer, they can beat any machine. How does this 'guided machine learning' change the game? I think that, looking forward, it’s an idea that is really worth paying attention to.”

The CyberWire will certainly be following AI and ML every step of the way as the two heavyweight technologies continue to grow and compete with legacy antivirus solutions in the coming months.
